3 Reasons To Have An Engagement Photo Session

3 Reasons To Have An Engagement Photo Session

You're engaged!! This is one of the most exciting seasons in your life, and there's a LIST of things to do. I just got married, so trust me, I've been through this process and know it's not easy. Places like The Knot or Wedding Wire will gladly show you ALL of the things that need to get done and in what order and when they need to be done by.

Whew. Let's take some deep breaths.

It can all seem overwhelming, so why add one more thing to your plate? Why add engagement photos to your to-do list when all you NEED to do is book a photographer? Why add the extra stress of outfit planning, location planning, finding time in your schedule to book another meet-up with a vendor?

Well friend, I'm here to tell you 3 reasons why you NEED an engagement session booked while you're engaged! Trust me, you won't regret it.

  1. It brings a level of comfort to your wedding day.

Let me explain. Your wedding photographer is the vendor you'll be spending the most time with on your wedding day. They capture everything, from start to finish. If you've never met this person, interacted with them, or understood their style of posing or instructing you as you're in front of the camera, a lot of uncertainty and awkwardness can occur.

Posing language and style is different from photographer to photographer, so learning the base poses that your photographer uses during your engagement session can be also used on your wedding day. You'll feel comfortable and know what to expect, while your photographer can adequately prepare for what poses flatter you and your significant other the best! See how this goes both ways?

2. It allows you to build relationships.

Not only is an engagement session a great time to snuggle and love on your significant other, but it's also a great time to get to know your photographer and they're shooting style! You'll get to know their personality and they'll get to know you! When you meet back up on your wedding day, the hope is that it feels like hanging out with a friend and taking some gorgeous photos.

Also, after you get your engagement photos back you can give your photographer feedback on which poses you loved the most and even the ones you didn't. This will help your photographer prepare to give you the best experience on your wedding day.

3. It gives you the opportunity to show off your uniqueness to friends and family.

Getting your engagement photos done can show off your personalities and relationship style to your family and friends. They'll be professional and look a lot nicer than a simple selfie of the two of you. You can choose outfits, locations, and poses yourself that most describe the relationship you have. This can be a really fun process that the two of you can come up with alongside your photographer!

Many couples end up choosing some of their engagement photos to create their save-the-dates, invitations, and thank-you cards! I've also seen engagement photos used in a slideshow during the wedding reception and in the guest book for people to sign and leave a sweet note or comment. You can do so much with your engagement photos. You can incorporate them any way you'd like to for your big day or simply pick a few to hang on the walls or give to Grandma. Either way, these will serve as a priceless reminder of this sweet season of life.

Your engagement season can seem to fly by so fast with planning and preparation, but this engagement session will serve as a time to slow down, enjoy the season of engagement you're in, and to give you photos that you'll one day show to your kids and grandkids.

I hope this helps and inspires you to have an amazing engagement session!

XOXO, Meghan
